There is good news for expatriate employees in Dubai! The Emirate has established a remote-working program to enable professionals to live here while employed by companies overseas.
As per the announcement made by Dubai Media Office on 15th October, expatriate employees can currently work remotely from Dubai for firms in their home country. Applicants participating in the program are to benefit from the Emirate’s zero income tax for individuals. Thanks to the program, applicants can avail all services that are present for permanent residents in Dubai, such as phone and internet, schooling, and utilities.
The move provides remote employees, along with their families the chance to move in and relocate to Dubai, on a long-term basis. It is demonstrative of the Government of Dubai’s advanced thinking, adaptability, and sustained competitiveness in the rapidly changing landscape.
This unique program costs AED 2,107 ($287), apart from medical insurance with valid UAE coverage and processing fee per individual.
The eligibility criteria for the new program are as follows:
● Passport with a minimum of 6 months validity
● Health insurance with validity of UAE coverage
● Proof of Employment from the present employer with contract validity of 1 year, a salary of at least AED 18,350 ($5,000) per month, previous month’s pay slip and bank statements of the 3 preceding months
● If you are a company owner, you are required to produce proof of the company’s ownership for one year or more, with an average monthly income of AED 18,350 ($5,000) per month, and three preceding months’ bank statements
Incidentally, Dubai has received the Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel & Tourism Council (“WTTC”) due to its sincerity in ensuring the highest standards of hygiene as well as COVID-19 safety measures. The recent introduction of the “Dubai Assured” stamp also certifies organizations’ implementation of all public health protocols for preventing and managing coronavirus effectively.
The new scheme is in line with a fast-evolving digital drive in the workplace, brought about by the COVID-19 outbreak. It is designed to give a unique, safe lifestyle opportunity to digitally savvy employees and their families while they continue to work remotely, for any time span.
The program would also consolidate the Emirate's position as a global business hub, giving a boost to enhance business practices and optimizing growth. It enhances Dubai's status as the prime destination to live and work.
